Date-Customizable SyriaWeek Reports – Progress Preview

UPDATED 9/24/15: SyriaWeek’s events updating is now complete, and the map will now always display current data. In the next series of upgrades, SyriaWeek will add viewer-controllable features, such as a time slider, language filter, and data filters. See this page for live updates of the completely re-hauled reporting system and map interface of SyriaWeek as we complete these final features:

  • Migrate SyriaWeek’s known locations library (3212!) to the SyriaWeek database (completed 6/10/15)
  • Migrate SyriaWeek’s unknown locations library (714!) to the SyriaWeek database (completed 6/10/15)
  • Migrate SyriaWeek’s known belligerents library (389 records) to the SyriaWeek database (completed 6/15/15)
  • Synchronize the SyriaWeek locations database with the SyriaWeek map (completed 6/20/15)
  • Synchronize SyriaWeek’s entire control records library to the SyriaWeek database (completed 6/24/15)
  • Synchronize SyriaWeek’s entire conflict incidents library to the SyriaWeek database (completed 6/25/15)
  • Synchronize SyriaWeek’s control and conflict database to the SyriaWeek map’s color-styling structure (completed 6/26/15)
  • Update SyriaWeek’s control and conflict database to within 21 days of the current date (completed 8/21/15)
  • Update SyriaWeek’s control and conflict database to within 14 days of the current date (completed 9/12/15)
  • Update SyriaWeek’s control and conflict database to within 4 days of the current date (completed 9/22/15)
  • Add time slider for viewers’ custom manipulation of the SyriaWeek map for all dates since January 1, 2015 (completed 11/7/15)
  • Add language filter for viewers to limit the map to just one display language (in progress)
  • Add filters for displayed data such as control group, event information and source references (in progress)
  • Merge 2014 control and conflict data into SyriaWeek database (not yet started)
  • Merge 2013 control and conflict data into SyriaWeek database (not yet started)

Expected completion date for time slider, language filter and data filters is January 12, 2016.

Expected completion date for pre-2015 events’ incorporation into SyriaWeek database is August 16, 2016.

  3. You really make it seem so easy along with your presentation however I find this topic to be really one thing which I believe I’d never understand. It sort of feels too complex and very extensive for me. I’m looking forward to your next post, I will attempt to get the cling of it!
